The staff at the Children’s Center, Inc. showed up in force to count our unhoused neighbors during the Annual HUD Point-in-Time Count. Held each year on the last Thursday in January, team members led by new CEO, Hilda Garcia, not only counted but provided sandwiches or hot meals to nearly 400 people.
The Annual HUD Point-in-Time Count, in the Galveston Bay Area, is conducted by the HUD mandated local homeless coalition. In the Galveston Bay Area, the Gulf Coast Homeless Coalition, which has 22 member organizations conducts the count on Galveston Island and the Mainland. The numbers for this year’s count have not been tabulated as of March 2024. However, last year in 2023, the Gulf Coast Homeless Coalition which included the TCCI team counted persons in 9 cities in Galveston County.
